Ingredients (about 7 Cookies)
- Unsalted butter: 1 stick (113g), softened to room temperature
- White sugar: 68g
- Brown sugar: 78g
- Egg: 50g (about 1 large egg), at room temperature
- Vanilla extract: to taste
- Baking soda: 2g
- Salt: 3g
- All-purpose flour: 178g
- Chocolate chips: 180g
Instructions
Step 1: Cream the butter Using a hand mixer, beat the softened butter until light and fluffy.
Step 2: Add sugars Add white sugar, brown sugar, and salt to the butter. Beat on medium speed until the mixture becomes pale and creamy.
Step 3: Incorporate egg Add the room temperature egg and vanilla extract in portions, beating on medium speed until well combined after each addition.
Step 4: Add dry ingredients Sift together the all-purpose flour and baking soda. Add to the wet mixture and fold gently with a spatula using a cutting motion until just combined.
Step 5: Add chocolate chips Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Step 6: Chill the dough Divide the dough into 96g portions and shape into balls. Refrigerate until firm (at least 1-2 hours or overnight for best results).
Step 7: Bake Gently press down the top of each dough ball to flatten slightly. Bake in a preheated oven at 170°C (340°F) for 17 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
Pro Tips
- Spreading control: The amount of spreading depends on how long you cream the butter. More whipping incorporates more air, causing cookies to spread more during baking.
- If cookies don't spread enough: Flatten the dough balls more before baking and let them sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes to remove the chill before baking.
Storage
- Room temperature: Store completely cooled cookies individually wrapped for 4-5 days
- Freezer: Freeze individually wrapped cookies for up to 1 month
